Rajamudi Rice: The Heritage Grain of Karnataka

Rajamudi is one of Karnataka’s most treasured heritage rice varieties — a soft-textured red rice that was, by tradition, associated with the royal households of the region. Today it’s enjoyed by families who value traditional, chemical-free grains grown the way they always were.

What Makes Rajamudi Special

Rajamudi has a distinctive reddish-brown bran layer and a subtle, earthy flavour. Unlike heavily polished white rice, it’s typically left semi-polished or unpolished, which helps retain the natural character of the grain. It cooks to a soft, comforting texture that works beautifully with everyday South Indian meals.

At Krish Royal Organics, our Rajamudi is grown without synthetic chemical inputs and freshly packed in small batches in Karnataka — so what reaches your kitchen is traceable, authentic, and true to tradition.

How to Cook Rajamudi Rice

  1. Rinse the rice gently once or twice in clean water.
  2. Soak for 20–30 minutes — this helps the grain cook evenly.
  3. Use roughly 2.5 to 3 cups of water per cup of rice.
  4. Pressure cook for 3–4 whistles, or simmer in an open pot until soft.
  5. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.

Rajamudi pairs wonderfully with sambar, rasam, curd, or a simple ghee-and-dal combination. Its soft texture makes it a family favourite for daily meals.
