Description
If millets had royalty, ragi would wear the crown for calcium. This small reddish-brown grain has nourished South Indian families — and especially their children and elders — for centuries, cooling in summer and rich in minerals. From porridge to dosa to a comforting health drink, ragi does it all. Grown chemical-free in Karnataka’s ragi heartland.
In your kitchen
Use for porridge, dosa, idli and the health drinks that raised generations. A cooling, mineral-rich everyday staple.
How to cook it
- For ragi malt: soak overnight, tie in a cloth to sprout 1–2 days, shade-dry and grind.
- For fresh flour: clean, lightly roast and mill — fresher than any packet flour.
- Whole ragi also cooks into a hearty porridge; simmer well with water or milk.

Frequently asked questions
Why buy whole ragi instead of ready flour?
Two reasons: you can sprout it (sprouted ragi malt is the traditional baby-and-elder food, and sprouting is only possible with whole grain), and home-ground flour is fresher than anything milled months ago.
What is sprouted ragi malt used for?
It’s the classic Karnataka health drink — sprouted, dried, ground ragi cooked into a smooth porridge with milk or water. Generations of children in this state grew up on it.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Best used within 6 months of packing.
