Description
Broken wheat — daliya, or jave — is the slow-energy breakfast that’s stood the test of time. Low-GI, high in fibre and gently filling, it makes a comforting upma or porridge that keeps you going. Made from chemical-free wheat, milled coarse just the way it should be.
In your kitchen
Cook with water or milk for a filling daliya porridge or a savoury upma. A naturally low-GI, high-fibre way to start the day. Freshly milled; best used within three months.
How to cook it
- Rinse, then simmer 1 cup rava in 3 cups water (or milk for sweet daliya) for 12–15 minutes.
- Savoury: temper like upma with vegetables. Sweet: finish with milk and jaggery.
- Pressure-cooking (2–3 whistles) makes it even softer for children and elders.
Why you’ll love it
- Chemical-Free – Grown and processed without synthetic pesticides or chemicals
- High in Fibre – Dietary fibre that supports healthy digestion and keeps you fuller
- Low GI – A low-glycemic choice that fits a blood-sugar-conscious plate
- Easy to Digest – Light and gentle on the stomach
Frequently asked questions
Is jave rava the same as daliya or broken wheat?
Yes — jave godhi is Karnataka’s traditional emmer-type wheat, and this is that grain, cleaned and broken. If you know daliya or lapsi, you already know how to cook it.
Why choose this over regular sooji upma?
Sooji is refined; broken wheat keeps the whole grain — more fibre, a naturally lower glycemic character and a breakfast that holds you till lunch instead of mid-morning.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Freshly stone-ground — best used within 3 months while the flavour is at its brightest.
